National Red Cross

Southern Arizona Chapter

Donate Blood

On average, 450 people die each day from measles. A $1 donation can vaccinate a child and save their life. Join the efforts to "Vaccinate a Village" through a new partnership between the WNBA and the Measles Initiative. Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter volunteers will staff a table at the Phoenix Mercury/San Antonio Silver Stars game at U.S. Airways Arena on Thursday, August 26 at 6:00 p.m. to raise awareness and funds. Come cheer on the team and save a life! Learn more by visiting www.measlesinitiative.org.

In the last five months, Grand Canyon Chapter volunteers have been busy helping people just like you. There have been three large apartment fires in the Valley.  Three wildfires forced evacuations in northern Arizona. The Red Cross had a shelter open for three days to provide care and comfort to people impacted by the Schultz Fire. A month later, flash floods forced people from their homes. Many of the people impacted were those affected by the Schultz Fire. On top of all that, local volunteers have been responding to nearly two home fires a day.

These disasters are a stark reminder why it’s so important people get prepared now. As we celebrate National Preparedness Month in September, your local Red Cross urges Arizonans get “Red Cross Ready” which involves three simple steps. Click here to learn more and access lifesaving resources.

Thanks to a generous $80,000 Challenge Grant from Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, every contribution you make to the American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter for local disaster relief in Arizona is matched dollar for dollar.

Most Arizonans are aware that nationally, the American Red Cross helps families devastated by major disasters like floods, tornadoes, wildfires and earthquakes. What many do not know is that local volunteers respond every day to our most frequent and deadly local disaster – home fires – right in our own communities.

Red Cross Responds to Major Apartment Fire in North Phoenix

The North Valley Disaster team responded to an apartment complex fire near Bell Road and 7th Street earlier this morning. Approximately 17 units were impacted, forcing more than 30 individuals out of their homes. The Red Cross team assisted families in their sheltering needs and provided many of them the means to acquire new clothing and food. A volunteer Red Cross nurse and a Red Cross mental health worker were on the scene as well. Learn more by visiting the Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter Facebook page

The American Red Cross urges everyone to make water safety a priority.

“With so many people planning to stay cool in pools, water parks, lakes and beaches, it’s important for parents to make water safety a priority,” says Erin Kerger, Grand Canyon Chapter Aquatics Specialist. “Learn how to swim and take water safety, first aid and CPR/AED training so you’ll know what to do in an emergency.”

With today's pace of military deployments, the armed forces are paying increasing attention to preparing service members to cope with the psychological stress of combat and its aftermath. The Red Cross believes it is equally important to prepare family members to ensure they are better able to deal with the challenges of 'serving' at home while their loved one is deployed. < Read More >
