Our FREE teacher trainings and workshops help you integrate EHL resources into your lessons while earning Continuing Education Units at the same time. The American Red Cross is an authorized provider of Continuing Education Units through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), which are available for half-day workshops or 1, 2 and 3-day trainings.

Enroll in a teacher training and get the benefits:

• Walk into a teacher training or workshop and walk out with concrete plans on how to integrate Exploring Humanitarian Law into your current curricula.
• Learn about the array of primary source materials included in the EHL toolkit, including news accounts, testimonials, photos, videos, case studies and interactive projects that will bring real events to life for your students.
• All workshop and training participants will receive a hard copy and CD of course materials, modules, and methodology and curriculum guidelines.

Training Objectives

As a result of this training, participants will demonstrate:

• An appropriate understanding of the basic laws and principles of International Humanitarian Law
• A commitment to explore International Humanitarian Law with young people
• An understanding of the effective use of the EHL materials and teaching methodologies
• The role of the Red Cross and additional teacher support that is available
• An understanding of the use of EHL in U.S. schools. 

Training Opportunities

We recognize that today’s teachers are busier than ever, so we offer a range of options to fit your schedule and needs. All teacher workshops and training is offered free-of-charge.

• ½-Day Workshop: Provides an overview of EHL materials and curriculum integration.
• 1-Day Training: Provides an overview of EHL materials, curriculum integration and methodologies. Training may be offered on a single day or divided into two ½-day sessions.
• 2-Day Training: Offers curriculum immersion in which teachers additionally participate in case studies and interactive projects. Includes a continental breakfast and lunch on both days.
• 3-Day Training: Offers curriculum immersion, participation in case studies and interactive projects, and additional exposure to subject-matter experts. Includes a continental breakfast and lunch all three days.

Training Locations

• The primary training location for Arizona teachers is the Central Office of the Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross in Phoenix.
• Training may also be scheduled in Red Cross office locations in Prescott and Flagstaff OR... 
• We’ll come to you! Schools and/or districts with a minimum of eight interested teachers, may request an in-service training. We will need a classroom, conference or meeting room that will accommodate the number of enrollees. Our instructors will bring and provide all other equipment and materials.
