Red Cross Aquatics Classes

Lifeguarding Classes

Lifeguarding teaches candidates to be professional lifeguards. The course, which also includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Community First Aid, explains victim recognition and how to prevent emergencies around water as well as spinal injury management. Are you ready for the summer? Prepare yourself for a great job as a lifeguard!

Prerequisite

Must be at least 15 years of age; successfully complete a continuous swim of 300 yards; swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive 7 to 10 feet, retrieve 10-pound object, return to surface, swim back to starting point with the object within 1-minute, 40 seconds. 


Certification

Lifeguard Training/First Aid: 3-years.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; 1-year

Water Safety Instructor Classes

Water Safety Instructor teaches candidates to teach the American Red Cross progressive Learn to Swim program. Candidates will learn how to teach swim lessons to any age group, including infants and adults. This course will provide the foundation for teaching in a safe and fun environment. Our community pools need you! Are you ready?

Prerequisite

Must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of instructor course; possess Fundamentals of Instructor Training Certificate within the last year or possess a current national Health and Safety Services Instructor Authorization Certificate ; successfully complete the pre-course session.

Certification

Water Safety Instructor: Authorization is for 2 calendar years. All authorizations expire December 31 of each year. Initial authorization may be for less or more time depending on when the training is completed.

Learn-to-Swim Classes

The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program teaches aquatic and safety skills in a stepped progression. The program consists of seven courses ranging from Infant and Preschool Aquatics Program up to the Adult Beginner. The program is in place to teach people to swim and to be safe in and around water.
